Colin Miles

Canadian Music Advisor

The cause of Canadian music has no finer advocate than Colin Miles.

Now retired, he served as Regional Director of the BC Regional Office of the Canadian Music Centre, a library and music information service for Canadian composers.

His title said virtually nothing about his influence. Across years of dedication, Colin met and mentored virtually every Canadian composer of consequence, and a great many more whose names are not yet before the public.

He  did this through the formal structures of government, and the informal networks of talent that support Canadian music. He did so with endless good will, good cheer, and good results. Colin Miles is also a working musician, and has played viola in the Vancouver Opera Orchestra since its inception in 1977. In 2009 he received the Mayor's Arts Award for leadership in music.
