Jason Sherbundy

Conductor & Associate Artistic Director

A conductor, composer and keyboard player originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Jason Sherbundy has led over 32 regional musical theater shows, 20 operas, composed and arranged 17 theater pieces, and currently is playing and music directing Broadway musicals on tour in the U.S.  His most recent work includes the new Sony cast recording and San Francisco production of A Chorus Line.

He was assistant conductor of the Napa Valley Symphony, and music director, voice coach/accompanist, dance accompanist and jazz piano teacher at Sonoma State University of California.  His recent debut as a stage director for Verdi’s Falstaff at Berkeley Opera earned praise for its “mini-perfection” and was heralded for its “strong comic characterization. One could focus on the opera itself, and find great joy in it.” (San Francisco Classical Voice, www.sfcv.org). He currently teaches voice and jazz piano, and enjoys coaching singers.

“Tiny, but ever-adventurous Berkeley Opera put on a Falstaff today that kept coming up roses and daffodils, sunshine and Santa Claus. Jason Sherbundy conducted one of the best Berkeley Opera pickup orchestras I have heard over the years, in a consistent, beautifully detailed performance of the devilishly difficult Verdi score some big-name orchestras routinely ball up.”
