Join City Opera artists as we help celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the founding of Famee Furlane in our city. Sunday 14 October, from 2:30pm onward, we join our friends in a festival of Friuli music, food, dance, and culture. 2605 East Pender Street, near Nanaimo Street.
The Famee Furlane of Vancouver was founded in 1958 by a group of mostly young immigrants to Canada from the Region of Friuli in Northern Italy.
Their goal was to form a society to unite people of Friulian origin and descent into a large family with the intention of maintaining the honour of Friuli and Italy within Canada. A place where they could gather socially in order to maintain, enjoy and promote their family values, culture and traditions. It was also important that as immigrants in a new country, that they would unite together to help each other adjust, find work for each other by networking, and to settle into Canadian society.
City Opera is honoured to commemorate their success. One of their greatest success stories is that of our friend Bruno Freschi, the noted architect and a great supporter of City Opera.
