“Emperor” tickets now on sale

Dear Friends:

We have good news.

Today, seats went on sale online for our next production, the extraordinary chamber opera ‘Emperor of Atlantis’. It opens on 1 February 2009.

Tickets are $40, from Tickets Tonight and by phone at 604.684.2787. From 1 December, tickets will also be sold at Tom Lee Music, Sikora’s Classical Records, the Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre, and the Jewish Community Centre.

This British Columbia premiere will be given in partnership with the Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre, and at the Norman Rothstein Theatre.

It is a stunning work by Viktor Ullmann and Petr Kien. It arose at Theresienstadt in 1944. When the Nazis realized what was really going on, they shipped off to Auschwitz — and killed — the entire company. The art survived, although its creators did not. You will read on our homepage a good deal more about this unique and life-affirming work of music drama.

Today? Our invitation. Please join us. Support us. Help make this production possible in any way you can.

We freely acknowledge that today’s economy is about the worst in 80 years during which to raise $100,000. In today’s violent world? All the more reason to do so, and to tell this story.

When you see it, we believe you will agree.

When you help make it possible, you will be proud to have helped recreate such a stunning work of musical art, and human truth.

Thanks so much,

Dr Charles Barber
